My 9 yr old son was admitted into the hospital with pneumonia and elevated blood sugar.. They thought at first he was a diabetic but after one dosage of insulin his blood sugar dropped to normal so after 2 days in the hospital and continous blood sugar checks they release him and tell me he had a condition called stressed induced hyperglycemia.and it was caused by him being sick. so that was a month ago I took him to a follow up appt and now they want to do a oral glucose tolerance test and since he is also 6 lbs underweight a sweat test for cystic fibrosis even though he had one as a baby due to a viral infection and it was negative. They have run so many tests they did a test on him that monitors the blood sugar levels for the past 6 months and it came out normal they even tested him for celiacs disease which he does not have… Has anyone ever gone through this?I could see it if he showed symptoms of CF but he doesnt.Other than being thin..He is seeing a nutritionist next week.

what process is repressented by this sequence?
ingestion of starch to elevated blood sugar levels to secretion of insulin increased to drop on blood sugar levels to secretion of insulin decreased. what process is repressented by this sequence?
1. a feedback mechanism in multicellular organisms or
2. an immune response by cells of the pancreas or
3. the disruption of cellular communication

I was just recently diagnosed out of nowhere with type 1 diabetes. I am an extremely healthy, active individual and never saw it coming. I thought I would have more trouble with high blood sugar than low, but it hasn’t been the case. I’m taking virtually no Humalog during the day because it drops so low with my regular exercise routines, but I do still take the Lantus every night before bed. My blood sugar upon waking can be as low as 58. If its 70 I consider that a high reading. I’m upset because I’m forcing myself to ‘eat’ large quantities of food before bed, that, prior to the diagnoses, is something that I never would have done. I’m also eating alot of sugary sweets NOW to keep it higher after exercise. Even with the extra night food, and the spiking of the blood sugar levels (before bed they HAVE to read around 212 just to wake up with a level around 70) its still too low in the morning. I know that this is ok for now, but I’d really like to fore go future health complications down the road. Any suggestions? I’m also having gastrointestional issues (like bloating and gas). Is this related to my not taking any Humalog with meals, just substituting exercise? I’ve only had diabetes a month…

She diabetic (type two), has congestive heart failure on both sides of her heart, thyroid disease, the whole works – yeah not a healthy puppy. Anyhow, she’s swearing that the few times she has slipped up and eaten ‘desert’ (pecan pie, cake, etc.) her blood sugar has dropped faster by the next day – she thinks the deserts and blood sugar levels are not a coincidence and that perhaps the insulin is working harder because of the sugar. Would there be any truth in this? Also, should she even be ‘slipping up’ on eating sweets?
