I am just wondering if this is possible. My husband experienced a bizarre set of physical changes at about 1st-2nd grade, when he gained 50lbs in 3 months, went from very good eyesight to having poor vision, and started to feel tired all the time. A child going through that now would be asked to do some endocrine testing; however, my husband never went through that. Since then, he’s struggled with his weight, blood pressure, has dry & flaky skin/eczema, severe hay fever, and signs of sugar buildup in his skin (dark areas around creases and on the neck).

I ask, because my 2nd child is now 4 yrs old and going through some symptoms of Type I. He is very lean, about 30lbs (when he was nearly 9lbs at birth & 24 lbs at 6 months old), has moderate eczema, is extremely irritable with some behavior problems, and has trouble holding his bladder during the day and, especially, at night. I’m considering having his blood sugar checked in the next month.

Raw food diet for adult onset diabetes?

My mother’s 9 year old cat now has diabetes. Would he benefit from a raw food diet? I’ve been doing quite a bit of research for my pup and mentioned the idea to my mother (which kinda grossed her out). I thought I had read somewhere that a raw diet could help with feline diabetes and now I’m trying to find some research for her.

I know he’d benefit from a raw food diet regardless, but would a raw diet help with his diabetes specifically?
ETA: She’s been feeding him one variety of Purina brand kibble for his entire life and has only recently switched him to a Friskies wet food. [For the record]

Switching to adult food?

So we’re switching our cats to adult food at the new year, and were wondering what kinds other people use.

We’re looking for brands with less corn, they usually contain rice – due to the link of corn in the onset of diabetes in both animals and humans

We’d also prefer something more natural but are willing to consider anything.
We’re currently using Purina One Kitten Chow

We don’t feel that canned food has better benefits for the cats than dry food.

We give them a can/pouch of wet food per week as a treat.
