Hi,I’d like to ask a question about a health problem.First of all,this health problem is my sister’s(19 yrs old)..Before 1 year approximately–from Augoust 2009–,she saw in her big toe of her foot blood,i mean there was a small wound over there..the strange is that she couldn’t understand how this happened since she doesn’t remember herself to get hurt somewhere..Anyway,this wound was on the right side of her big toe.Days were passing and the wound did not close.This summer,2010,my family and I,understood that something strange going on with her cause she was wearing shocks all the time and also never go to the beach.OK,she was wearing shocks in winter,autumn etc but isn’t logical for someone to wear there on june,july,augoust,when the waether is very hot..OK,back to the stroy:And not only the wound couldn’t close but also as a result,her big toe(of right leg) became bigger than the big toe of the other leg(left).Moreover,in the right side of her big toe,she noticed that nail was growing,which wasn’t like the normal nail,i mean it could break more easily.As months was passing,this situation was becoming worser as it’s logical,and her big toe was becoming bigger than the big toe of her other leg..if someone sees her 2 toes,he can realise that the one is bigger than the other,not very much bigger but still he can understand the difference.Also,when she was wearing shoes,she was feeling a pain in her big toe cause it was pressured inside the shoes..especially,in narrow shoes it was even worse..then,there was blood and pus in that area..Plus,as i said before,she was waering shocks constantly and i’m afraid that this made the things worse.Ok,this was the story.The reason my sister didn’t go to doctor all these months was because she thought that maybe this is caused by diabetes(she isn’t diabetical,but she thoughts so) and for this reason the would couldn’t close and also she was afraid that she was affected by gangrene which would lead to amputation. Apart from that,she’s afraid of doctors VERY MUCH.So,instead of choosing of visiting a doctor to ask and find out what’s going on,she prefered to keep the problem secretly and didn’t tell anyone about this.So,i’d like to ask:
1)about gangrene: is it possible for my sister to have gangrene? i am not doctor but from the very few things i know on medical things,i don’t think so,cause when you have gangrene ,you’ve to take care immediately or at least in some days,otherwise you die.My sister has this problem for over 1 year(as i said before,from augoust 2009 till now),so i believe it isn’t gangrene.Please,someone who really knows tell me,cause maybe i’ve been wrong.
2)About gagrene again: is it true that when you don’t ”feel ” your toe,then this lead to amputation? i’ve heard something like that..i asked my sister and said that she can ”feel” her big toe and not only this but also,because of the wound,she feels pain while waering shoes,as i mentioned previously.
3)If it isn’t gangrene,where perhaps the problem due to? and why nail was growing in the right side of her big toe?
Sorry for the very long post,but i care for my sisster’s health,i tried to make her believe that when she doesn’t go the doctor,the problem doesn’t dissapear but she’s still afraid of amputation possibility..
