Is high and low blood sugar common before diagnosis?
I’m 15 and have been having symptoms of diabetes for a couple of months. My blood sugar has come back elevated, but not high enough to be diagnosed yet. I’m testing my blood sugar daily and i’ve been in the 200s a couple times, but lately i’ve been having hypoglycemic moments and when i checked my blood sugar it was low (in the 50s). My doctor thinks i’m developing type 1 just very slowly. so is both high and low blood sugar common in the early stages of type 1 diabetes?
and i’m 5’3 and weigh 105 pounds and have no family history of diabetes
Um yeah I’ve been to see an endocrinologist and the tests he did came back not normal. My blood sugar was elevated and my active insulin was kinda low which is why he says I’m developing diabetes

it is a sign of insulin resistance and that is indicative for type 2 diabetes
you need insulin senstizers
No, low blood sugar is not indicative of undiagnosed diabetes. The only thing that causes lows is a condition called hypoglycemia (different from diabetes) or taking too much insulin, which you haven’t yet. If your doc’s blood tests are coming back normal, then you likely don’t have it. Your meter might be off, or the test strips are not calibrated to the meter (the code on the side of the bottle might differ from what’s on the meter). If you want to be sure, see an internal medicine doc or an endocrinologist for more testing.
I was doing some research on this yesterday. My daughter has had some high sugars, but not high enough to have diabetes. Anyways, when they did her blood work, it showed she had lower than normal levels of insulin too. So I found this site yesterday. The children with diabetes website, says that type 1 actually starts out very slowly. It may take 9 years or more, before you actually have full blown diabetes. So yes you could have sugars that go up or down, depending on what you ate or did not eat, stress, exercise, etc. Keep eating healthy, exercise and try not to get too stressed. Good luck!!
edit: I forgot I still had this email to my question about this. Read the answer and that will give you a better answer. Good luck! http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/dteam/2008-02/d_0d_f2o.htm
